BJP's Claims The Bharatiya Janata Party, which is the ruling party of India, has always opposed the autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir. They think of the autonomous province as a "nation within a nation". And for the "unity" of India, they claimed, the abrogation was necessary. Why have such a hard-liner approach towards J&K but not the Northeast? The Northeastern provinces of India are autonomous, though not as much as the former J&K, and have also witnessed a bloody insurgency. But abrogating their status does not seem necessary, somehow.
